Black Beauty: 56k-mile 1989 560SL

Late model, black on black, roadster with a hard top, classic lines, V8, low miles... it's safe to say this one is checking all the right boxes. Located in Atlantic Beach, NY, this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is a 2 owner example with only 56k miles. The R107 has become increasingly popular and is already considered a forever classic as it seems all SL's are destined to become. With a clean bill of health and a recent $5k service, this car has been well-prepped for it's next owner. The current seller, Max, who is also a reader of The MB Market, submitted his beautiful 560SL to us this week and has an asking price of $30k.

The car is finished in a gorgeous Black Pearl Metallic (199) which has some depth to it in the light as opposed to the solid Black seen more commonly. The paint shines with no imperfections visible indicating this car has been cared for and stored indoors. The chrome wheels are period correct and greatly compliment the chrome trim on the bumpers, grill, and window surrounds.

European headlights have been swapped which most enthusiasts agree are more attractive when compared the their USDM equivalents. The car still retains it's USDM bumpers and optional fog lights can be seen mounted below the front bumper. A black soft top is also pictured which appears to be in equally nice shape and no oxidation in the rear window.

The interior is finished in Black Leather (271) with wood veneer trim. The seats show minimal wear and compared to most R107's we see on the market, have held up beautifully. The wood trim still retains it's color and only minor hairline cracks seen in the veneer below the window switches. An aftermarket headunit has been installed which we wouldn't mind seeing swapped for a Continental TR unit for a more appropriate look. Both the door cards and door sills are common wear items for R107's, however, both look immaculate on this 560SL, further supporting the fact that this car has been loved.

As a later year model for the R107, this car is equipped with the 5.6L M117 V8 which was rated at 272 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque when new. Last summer, the seller had a healthy bit of work performed to the car in order to keep it in top running condition. Receipts totaling $5k accompany the car showing the following maintenance:

- New Shocks

- Transmission Service

- New Control Arms

- Complete Fluid Flush

- New Seals

- New Steering Box

As collectible as R107's have become, clean examples have been commanding top dollar and are still relatively difficult to find. This color in particular is rare all by itself which makes this car all the more interesting. With all maintenance up to date, this roadster is ready for a new home. The car will come with the matching hard top and interested buyers may contact the seller, Max, directly at maxyb13@aol.com.
