Interesting Colors and Easy Options: 2003 E55 AMG

Back to our regular reviews after the last few six-figure, wallet busters. As total MB fanatics, we enjoy some of the less browsed channels, for example many of our best finds come from social media groups and owners pages. This 2003 E55 AMG was recently listed for sale and we expect it to find a new home fairly quickly. If anyone is interested in learning more, it can be found on the AMG Parts & Cars for Sale facebook page.

Finished in Cubanite Metallic (723) over Anthracite and Merlot, the combination is a welcome yet subtle departure from all the Brilliant Silver W211 E55’s on the market. The car is equipped with all the usual refinements but seems to be minimally optioned as it’s managed to retain the original non-COMMAND head unit with a built-in tape deck. No worries there as COMMAND is largely obsolete in 2020 but did allow for one very important feature- COMMAND was the option that introduced the auxiliary input channel for the stereo in this era of Mercedes. Thus, if the driver wants to tailor their tracks they may have to track down a tape deck adapter.

The color combination isn’t where the fun stops with this E55. The car benefits from a tune, free flowing exhaust, and upgraded polyurethane motor mounts. In addition a tidy list of recent upgrades and fixes accompanies the car to market including; both new batteries, new BOSCH alternator, a new supercharger pulley bearing, new front air struts 300 miles ago (rears were replaced at 60k at MB), new air suspension compressor/relay, and new Akebono brake pads with Meyle rotors. The seller does indicate the need for a new left front ball joint as it changes hands.

This 2003 E55 AMG is offered as a clean title, three owner vehicle with a clean history and 5 pages of VMI from MB since new. The odometer is showing just shy of 123k miles on the clock and is offered for $13,500. This price, if only slightly higher than comparable cars, lends a lot of reassurance in both maintenance and rarity of colors so we see this as a fair offering to the driver who wants to stand out...but not too much.
