As much as we enjoy the unicorns and the rarities, we love finding interesting cars with interesting stories. Perhaps one of the more interesting listings currently on the market, this 2002 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet can be found in Florida with some peculiar modifications and a price attractive enough to ignore some shortcomings. This car can be seen listed here on Marketplace out of St. Petersburg, Florida for $5,500 with 104k on the clock. The kicker- It has an HPS Supercharger installed along with some fun dealer options.
Finished in Brilliant Silver (744) over Designo Anthracite Nappa hide, this CLK appears fairly standard at first glance. The owner however, has modified the car with an HPS Supercharger (Eaton MP90) good for about a 107hp gain over the stock specs. According to the seller, the install was personally performed and thankfully, judging by the photos, the owner doesn’t seem to be a stranger to AMG’s. They’ve owned the car for 10 years and claim to have kept solid maintenance history and records throughout their ownership. Along the way some A-pillar gauges have been installed, measuring boost and air/fuel mixture. Over the years the seller has installed some 19” 5 spoke wheels but doesn’t mention whether or not the original wheels are still available.
Despite needing a front bumper repair and a really thorough detail, we love seeing some of the original options and accessories left on the car. The factory COMAND unit is still in place along with the OEM wind deflector and branded CLK55 AMG floor mats. In a couple photos a class 1 or class 2 tow receiver can be seen attached to the car. Hopefully this car has been used for a bike rack or something equally as anti-strenuous compared to a utility trailer or something heavier.
We’d love to see this CLK cleaned up and restored to a factory appearance while retaining the HPS supercharger. These cars are fantastically fun sleepers and are very capable of Autobahn-inspired cruising. Asking price is a mere $5,500 and at that, we see a lot of potential in this seemingly tired Cabriolet.
