They say love is a universal language and if that includes the love for Mercedes-Benz then we couldn't agree more. Here we have a very rare SL70 AMG submitted to us by one of our subscribers, @Hadster11 on Instagram, in Dubai. The car currently has 117,000 kms (72k miles) and was imported from Japan by the current owner. The AMG Japan VIN tag can be found in the driver side door jam. All of the original manuals and maintenance receipts from new accompany the car. The car wears the very rare and desirable 2 piece BBS AMG wheels with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The exterior is Glacier White over two-toned black and gray interior.
For anyone looking at an R129, it's safe to say you'll need to soon budget an additional $3,000 to have the 11 motors that control the hard top and soft top rebuilt or replaced. Luckily, this SL70 has had these replaced 7 months ago and should be ready for years of enjoyment before needing to worry about them again.
As a later model R129, this SL wears the Gen 2 AMG kit which includes both AMG front and rear bumpers along with side skirts. The seller states the car has never been in any kind of accident, however, the front passenger side fender was repainted due to a deep scratch which can be normal for a car of this age. As a V12 model, the dash, steering wheel, and door cards are stitched and wrapped in leather which adds a very nice touch to the interior. The woodgrain appears to be free of cracks and the leather seats appear to be in excellent shape as well. Additional options are xenon headlights, heated seats, AMG door sills, AMG exhaust, and some additional woodgrain interior pieces to go along with the SL70 trim.
This M120 engine has been bored to 7.0 liters and is number 66 out of 150 total SL70s produced by AMG between 1997 and 1998. The engine now boasts a hefty 489 bhp and 531 lb ft of torque. This engine is best described as exotic in a world flooded by V8's at the time. Get behind the wheel and you'll feel the incredibly smooth yet stern delivery of all of that power waiting anxiously under your right foot. You might even get a nod or two from a Pagani owner. The seller states the car runs in tip top shape with no leaks at all and no warning lights on the dash. These don't come up for sale often and when they do, they're typically not stateside such as this one which is now located in Dubai. For comparison, in April 2019, a black 1998 SL70 with a mere 32,000 kms sold with RM Sothebys for $190,000 (inclusive of buyers fee). Given the market for these cars and their rarity, the seller is asking a reasonable $90,000 for this example and is able to assist in shipping arrangements as needed.
